About the Association

The Ludwig van Beethoven Association was founded in Kraków on 24 September 2003 by Elżbieta Penderecka. Since its establishment, the Association has been dedicated to organising the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, promoting classical music, and showcasing Poland’s rich musical heritage to international audiences. It works in partnership with cultural organisations and institutions in Poland and abroad, fostering international collaboration and supporting the exchange of artistic ideas.

The Association

The Ludwig van Beethoven Association was founded in Kraków on 24 September 2003 at the initiative of Elżbieta Penderecka—one of Poland's most distinguished cultural figures, a renowned patron of the arts and an unwavering advocate for Polish culture on the international stage. For more than two decades, the Association has been dedicated to promoting classical music, preserving Poland's rich musical heritage and fostering international cultural exchange.

Through its longstanding experience and close collaboration with leading artistic institutions in Poland and abroad, the Association has established itself as one of the country's foremost organisers of classical music events.

For over twenty years, the Association has delivered cultural projects of both national and international significance, encompassing concert presentation, artistic programming, education, publishing and cultural promotion. Its activities bring together world-class artists, distinguished institutions and audiences from across the globe, creating a platform for artistic excellence, intercultural dialogue and the celebration of classical music.

Founder of the Ludwig van Beethoven Association

An arts patron, a champion of Polish culture and the founder of the Ludwig van Beethoven Association, Elżbieta Penderecka was the driving force behind a number of major music festivals, including the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival.

She brought classical music, Polish artists and the country’s cultural heritage to leading stages at home and abroad, becoming one of Poland’s most prominent cultural ambassadors.

Our Mission

The mission of the Ludwig van Beethoven Association is to promote classical music as a universal language that transcends borders, connecting people, cultures and nations. The Association is committed to preserving and promoting Poland's rich musical heritage, nurturing the next generation of artists, and fostering lasting partnerships between cultural institutions in Poland and around the world.

Its activities combine the highest artistic standards with education, scholarly research and active engagement in international cultural exchange, reflecting a belief that music has the power to inspire dialogue, broaden perspectives and strengthen mutual understanding.

The Association's principal objectives include:

organising the annual Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, one of Europe's leading classical music festivals;
promoting classical music and expanding access to its rich repertoire;
advancing knowledge of classical music and the lives and works of its composers;
supporting the education and artistic development of exceptionally talented young musicians;
safeguarding Poland's musical heritage for future generations;
promoting music as a means of fostering dialogue and understanding between societies and nations across Europe and beyond;

supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives through cultural activity.

What We Do

The Association's flagship undertaking is the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, one of Europe's most distinguished celebrations of classical music, bringing together many of the world's leading orchestras, soloists, conductors and ensembles.

Alongside the Festival, the Association presents the Festival of Romantic Compositions "Elsner and His Successors", publishes books and recordings, organises masterclasses, academic conferences and educational initiatives, and works in close partnership with leading cultural institutions in Poland and abroad.

Its year-round programme of activities also includes:

presenting concerts, exhibitions and a wide range of cultural events;
supporting artists and the wider creative community, with particular emphasis on emerging talent;
publishing books, recordings and promotional materials dedicated to classical music;
delivering educational programmes, masterclasses and scholarly initiatives;
fostering international cultural cooperation and artistic exchange;
promoting Polish music and cultural heritage on the international stage;
developing long-term partnerships with cultural institutions, universities and non-governmental organisations.

Through these diverse activities, the Association continues to enrich cultural life in Poland while strengthening the international presence of Polish music and creating opportunities for artistic collaboration across borders.

Since its foundation, the Ludwig van Beethoven Association has cultivated an extensive network of partnerships with leading cultural institutions across Europe and beyond, delivering collaborative artistic, educational and promotional projects of international significance. Its events regularly bring together distinguished orchestras, conductors, soloists and ensembles from around the world, while radio, television and online broadcasts extend their reach to audiences both in Poland and internationally.

International collaboration lies at the heart of the Association's mission. By fostering artistic exchange and long-term institutional partnerships, it serves as an important ambassador for Polish culture, strengthening intercultural dialogue and demonstrating the power of music to build lasting connections across borders.
