Yeol Eum Son

Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son drew international attention when she appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Lorin Maazel on its 2004 tour of Asia. In 2011 Ms. Son won a second prize at the XIV Tchaikovsky International Music Competition in Moscow, where she also received awards for the Best Chamber Concerto Performance and Best Performance of the Commissioned Work composed by Rodion Shchedrin.

A favourite among international orchestras, Ms. Son has appeared with the Czech Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, NHK Symphony, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Petersburg Academic Symphony, Svetlanov Symphony (former USSR State Symphony), Seattle Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, KBS Symphony, Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and NDR Sinfonieorchester. Most recent engagements include performances with the Tonkünstler-Orchesters Niederösterreich, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern at the Besancon Festival, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra at the Rotterdam Gergiev Festival followed by Asian tour as well as recitals in Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, Tel Aviv, St. Petersburg, Bad-Kissingen and throughout Korea.

Highlights of her current and upcoming seasons include appearances with Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, Gürzenich-Orchester in Cologne, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Qatar Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, at the Beethoven Easter Festival with Warsaw Philharmonic and at the Aspen Music Festival, Asian tour with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and many recitals throughout Asia, Europe and North America.

Yeol Eum Son currently studies with Arie Vardi at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover in Germany, where she now makes her home.
