Russian bass Nikolay Didenko graduated from the Moscow Academy of Choral Art in both singing and conducting in 2003. Between 2003-04, he was a soloist of the ‘New Opera’ in Moscow, and until 2005 a member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, where he participated in several productions including Turandot, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Die Zauberflöte and Tosca.
On the opera stage Nikolay had great success with La Forza del Destino at Cologne Opera and La Sonnambula at the Bolshoi Theatre, where he has been re-invited for its revival this season. Lately he has also sung; Oroveso in Norma on tour with Europa Galante and at Cologne Opera, Pistola in Falstaff at the Bilbao Opera, his first Filippo II (Don Carlo) and Leporello (Don Giovanni) both with the Cologne Opera. Recent concert performances have included; Shostakovich 14 with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra, Credo with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Shostakovich 13 in Suntory Hall with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Mahler 8 with the Orchestra Sao Paolo, Shostakovich 14 on tour with the Bamberg PO and L’amore dei tre re at the Beethoven Festival.
He opened the 2015/16 season with Benvenuto Cellini at the Cologne Opera and will make a return to the UK for the world premiere of a commission by Alexander Raskatov with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, followed by Don Pasquale at the Bolshoi.
