The conductor Avner Biron is thefounder, musical director and permanent conductorof the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem.Creativity, inventiveness and originality are thewatchwords for his versatile musical activities.By intensive and inspiring work, he has broughtthe orchestra to the highest standard in Israeli musicallife, and won worldwide recognition for it. He createsoriginal and interesting concert programmes, andrestores rarely performed repertoire to Israeli concerthalls alongside renowned masterpieces. Furthermore,he encourages original Israeli compositions bycommissioning works from Israeli composers andperforming them in Israel, abroad and on recordings.Avner Biron has conducted the Israel PhilharmonicOrchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra andthe Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, and has been invitedto conduct orchestras around the world. He was themusical director of several festivals, among themthe ”Abu-Ghosh” music festival and the ”Musicand Nature” festival in Galilee. He founded the GalileeSoloists Ensemble, a virtuoso ensemble that has gainedinternational success within a short period of time andhas been invited on concert tours around the world.Avner Biron was head of the Jerusalem Academyof Music and Dance during 1994-2003. During histerm, he established its unique department of ArabicMusic, a department for Multidisciplinary Music andthe Academy Chamber Orchestra as well as otherinitiatives.He began his musical career as a flautist with the IsraelPhilharmonic Orchestra and as a solo-flautist with theIsrael Chamber Orchestra. He has performed manyrecitals and chamber music concerts. He has directedmany master-classes for flautists in Israel and abroad.In 2005 Avner Biron was awarded the Minister ofEducation Prize for excellence and artistic achievementover many years and for his contribution to musicallife in Israel. In 2013 he was awarded a prize by theMinistry of Culture for artists who have contributed tothe development of Israeli culture throughout the ages.
