From 28 August to 2 September, the Royal Łazienki Museum once again hosted the Romantic Compositions Festival: Elsner and His Successors.
The festival opened with a performance by Polish cellist Krzysztof Michalski, this year’s Polish laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
On 29 August, pianist Yehuda Prokopowicz presented a recital featuring music by Maria Szymanowska, Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt and Sergei Prokofiev.
The Duo Karolina Mikołajczyk & Iwo Jedynecki took to the stage on 30 August. Violinist Karolina Mikołajczyk and accordionist Iwo Jedynecki performed original arrangements of music by Józef Elsner, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maria Szymanowska and Karol Szymanowski, highlighting the unique sound of violin and accordion.
On 31 August, pianist Piotr Pawlak performed music by Johann Sebastian Bach, together with Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35, and the Piano Sonata in B-flat minor, Op. 45 by his pupil Ignacy Krzyżanowski.
The chamber concert on 1 September brought together violinist Aleksandra Kuls, cellist Antoni Wrona and pianist Krzysztof Książek, who performed piano trios by Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński and Clara Schumann.
The festival closed on 2 September with Adam Golka’s recital, Stories at the Piano, featuring music by Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Juliusz Zarębski, Frederic Rzewski and Frédéric Chopin.
The festival was organised by the Ludwig van Beethoven Association in partnership with the Royal Łazienki Museum. Concerts took place in the Royal Theatre and the Palace on the Isle.
This year’s festival poster was designed by Patrycja Longawa.
The ninth edition of the Romantic Compositions Festival returns to Warsaw from 10 to 16 September 2027.
