Israel Camerata Jerusalem for Krzysztof Penderecki

Today is the 87th birthday of Krzysztof Penderecki, the great Polish composer who passed away in March of this year.

In his honor and memory we have recorded a world premiere of Sonata for the Cello and Piano – an adaptation of his composition Sonata no. 1 for Violin and Piano. It was arranged by Marcin Zdunik at the beginning of this year with the encouragement and blessing of Penderecki prior to his death.

Penderecki was supposed to be the guest of honor at the “Musical Bridges Festival”, a collaborative effort between the Beethoven Festival, Poland, and the Israel Camerata Jerusalem. The piece will be included in the opening concert of the Musical Bridges Festival that will take place this upcoming weekend (November 28-29) between Chopin’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra no. 2 and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Due to Covid 19, the festival will be digitally broadcast.
