Over the course of <strong data-start=\"195\" data-end=\"215\">12 festival days<\/strong>, audiences will experience <strong data-start=\"243\" data-end=\"326\">8 symphonic concerts, 3 song recitals, 2 piano recitals, and 2 chamber concerts<\/strong>. Festival Director <strong data-start=\"346\" data-end=\"369\">El\u017cbieta Penderecka<\/strong> has invited many outstanding soloists and conductors, as well as top national and international symphony orchestras, to participate in this prestigious event.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"826\">The theme of this year\u2019s edition, <strong data-start=\"566\" data-end=\"598\">\u201cBeethoven and Great Poetry\u201d<\/strong>, has shaped a program rich in vocal-instrumental works and compositions inspired by literature. The repertoire spans from <strong data-start=\"721\" data-end=\"823\">Beethoven to Ferenc Liszt, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Maurice Ravel, and Krzysztof Penderecki<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"1692\">The festival will open with <strong data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"886\">Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 9<\/strong>, featuring Friedrich Schiller\u2019s famous <em data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"938\">Ode to Joy<\/em> in its finale. The <strong data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"995\">National Forum of Music Orchestra<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1001\" data-end=\"1030\">Krak\u00f3w Philharmonic Choir<\/strong>, and an exceptional quartet of soloists \u2013 <strong data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1182\">Chen Reiss (soprano), Sarah Romberger (mezzo-soprano), Sung Min Song (tenor), and Jan Martin\u00edk (baritone)<\/strong> \u2013 will perform under the baton of <strong data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1241\">Christoph Eschenbach<\/strong>. The <strong data-start=\"1247\" data-end=\"1279\">final concert on Good Friday<\/strong> will present <strong data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1328\">Kaddish by Krzysztof Penderecki<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1365\">Kaddish by Leonard Bernstein<\/strong>. The <strong data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1416\">National Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1465\">Alla Polacca Children\u2019s and Youth Choir<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1518\">Natalia Rubi\u015b (soprano), Gerard Edery (cantor),<\/strong> and narrators <strong data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1573\">Leah Pisar-Haas and S\u0142awomir Holland<\/strong> will perform under the direction of <strong data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1629\">Christoph K\u00f6nig<\/strong>, the Principal Guest Conductor of the National Philharmonic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1694\" data-end=\"2202\">The festival will feature <strong data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1748\">leading Polish ensembles<\/strong>, including the <strong data-start=\"1764\" data-end=\"1797\">Krak\u00f3w Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong>, conducted by <strong data-start=\"1812\" data-end=\"1839\">Maestro Lawrence Foster<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"1889\">Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>, led by <strong data-start=\"1898\" data-end=\"1917\">Yaroslav Shemet<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1923\" data-end=\"1954\">\u0141\u00f3d\u017a Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong>, under <strong data-start=\"1962\" data-end=\"1981\">Pawe\u0142 Przytocki<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"1991\" data-end=\"2027\">Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw<\/strong>, conducted by <strong data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2061\">Leonard Slatkin<\/strong>. For the <strong data-start=\"2071\" data-end=\"2085\">first time<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2124\">Beethoven Orchestra from Bonn<\/strong>, led by its musical director <strong data-start=\"2154\" data-end=\"2169\">Dirk Kaftan<\/strong>, will perform at the festival.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"3064\">This year\u2019s vocal recitals promise to be exceptional. Acclaimed <strong data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2285\">Ian Bostridge<\/strong>, accompanied by pianist <strong data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2329\">Saskia Giorgini<\/strong>, will perform <strong data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2417\">Beethoven\u2019s <em data-start=\"2358\" data-end=\"2382\">To the Distant Beloved<\/em> cycle and Schubert\u2019s <em data-start=\"2404\" data-end=\"2415\">Swan Song<\/em><\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"2419\" data-end=\"2439\">Tomasz Konieczny<\/strong>, with pianist <strong data-start=\"2454\" data-end=\"2472\">Lech Napiera\u0142a<\/strong>, will present <strong data-start=\"2487\" data-end=\"2549\">songs by Charles Ives, Richard Strauss, and Richard Wagner<\/strong>. Internationally acclaimed <strong data-start=\"2577\" data-end=\"2603\">soprano Izabela Matu\u0142a<\/strong>, with pianist <strong data-start=\"2618\" data-end=\"2639\">Krzysztof Ksi\u0105\u017cek<\/strong>, will perform <strong data-start=\"2654\" data-end=\"2712\">songs by Chopin, Moniuszko, Kar\u0142owicz, and Szymanowski<\/strong>. Chamber music highlights include performances by the <strong data-start=\"2767\" data-end=\"2825\">Australian Orava Quartet with pianist \u0141ukasz Krupi\u0144ski<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2830\" data-end=\"2858\">violinist Viviane Hagner<\/strong>, alongside fellow musicians from the <strong data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"2923\">Krzy\u017cowa Music Festival<\/strong>. Audiences are eagerly anticipating <strong data-start=\"2960\" data-end=\"3016\">recitals by the renowned Polish pianist Ewa Pob\u0142ocka<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3061\">French piano virtuoso Lucas Debargue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3066\" data-end=\"3417\">As part of the festival\u2019s <strong data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3110\">Unknown Operas<\/strong> series, <strong data-start=\"3119\" data-end=\"3138\">\u0141ukasz Borowicz<\/strong> will conduct <strong data-start=\"3152\" data-end=\"3194\">Johannes Mayr\u2019s opera <em data-start=\"3176\" data-end=\"3185\">Werther<\/em> (1794)<\/strong>. The performance will feature the <strong data-start=\"3229\" data-end=\"3262\">Pozna\u0144 Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> and a cast of rising vocal stars: <strong data-start=\"3297\" data-end=\"3414\">Zuzanna Nalewajek, Katarzyna Drelich, Krystian Krzyszowiak, Krzysztof Lechman, Tomasz Kumi\u0119ga, and Nazar Mykulyak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3419\" data-end=\"3736\">In keeping with tradition, the festival will feature additional <strong data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3516\">cultural and scholarly events<\/strong>, including the <strong data-start=\"3532\" data-end=\"3597\">Exhibition of Musical Manuscripts at the Jagiellonian Library<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"3606\" data-end=\"3644\">International Scientific Symposium<\/strong>. This year\u2019s edition is visually announced by a poster designed by <strong data-start=\"3712\" data-end=\"3733\">Julita Malinowska<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3738\" data-end=\"3956\">The <strong data-start=\"3742\" data-end=\"3787\">29th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival<\/strong> is <strong data-start=\"3791\" data-end=\"3855\">co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"3864\" data-end=\"3882\">City of Warsaw<\/strong>.
