Pustelak, where he graduated with distinction.<\/p>\n<p>He is a prize-winner of several international vocal competitions: Ada Sari (1999, First Prize), Bilbao (2000, Second Prize), Premio Caruso in Milan (2001, Main Prize), Francisco Vi\u00f1as, Barcelona (2004, Third Prize).<\/p>\n<p>Gierlach made his debut in 1999 at Warsaw Chamber Opera singing Haendel\u2019s Imeneo title role; in this theatre he also performed the role of Don Giovanni. At the Teatr Wielki \u2013 Polish National Opera he appeared as Colline in La Boh\u00e8me, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia, Escamillo in Carmen, and Gessler in Guillaume Tell. Some of his other remarkable performances in Poland include M\u00e9phistoph\u00e9l\u00e8s in Berlioz\u2019s The Damnation of Faust at the Cracow Philharmonic and King Louis in Weber\u2019s Euryanthe at the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Abroad, he performed Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro at Teatro Piccini di Bari and Argenio in Imeneo at Opera Ireland in Dublin. In Rossini\u2019s operas he played Mustafa in L\u2019Italiana in Algeri and in operas in Lisbon, Minneapolis and Ravenna; Assur in Semiramide at Teatro Verdi di Pisa, Alidoro in La Cenerentola at Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence and at the Stadttheater in Klagenfurt, Orbazzano in Tancredi at Teatro Maestranza de Sevilla, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Governor in Le Comte Ory at Wildbad\u2019s Belcanto Opera Festival, and Lord Sidney and Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims at Rossini Festival in Pesaro. He also sang Timur in Turandot (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and Commendatore in the premiere and recording of Ram\u00f3n Carnicer\u2019s Il dissoluto punito at La Coru\u00f1a Mozart Festival. Some\u00a0 of his other major roles include Salieri in Rimsky-Korsakov\u2019s Mozart and Salieri at the Teatro Filarm\u00f3nica de Oviedo, Orfeo at Narodne Divadlo Bratislava, Conte Rodolfo in Bellini\u2019s Sonnambula and Creonte in Mayr\u2019s Medea in Corinto in St. Gallen, and M\u00e9phistoph\u00e9l\u00e8s in Berlioz\u2019s The Damnation of Faust.<\/p>\n<p>His appearances have included Bach\u2019s Mass in B minor, conducted by Helmuth Rilling\u00a0 at the Warsaw Philharmonic, and Verdi\u2019s Requiem, conducted by Kai Baumann at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. He performed the solo part in Olivier Greif\u2019s Symphony in a concert inaugurating Marc Minkowski\u2019s artistic directorship of Sinfonia Varsovia. He sang in Salieri\u2019s The Passion of Jesus Christ with I Solisti Veneti conducted by Claudio Scimone (the concert was broadcast by RAI Italian Television), Rossini\u2019s Stabat Mater with Orquesta Sinf\u00f3nica del Principado de Asturias under Alberto Zedda and with ORquesta de Navarra under Antoni Wit, Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 9 with Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Penderecki\u2019s Seven Gates of Jerusalem under the composer\u2019s baton, and Arvo P\u00e4rt\u2019s St John\u2019s Passion in Prague\u2019s Spring Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Wojtek Gierlach has recorded Mirteo in Meyerbeer\u2019s Semiramide under Richard Bonynge, Zambri in Ciro in Babilonia, Pharaoh in Mos\u00e8 in Egitto, and Douglas in La Donna del Lago by Rossini under Alberto Zedda, Dourlinski in Cherubini\u2019s Lodo\u00efsca and Domoslav in Spohr\u2019s Der Berggeist (album released in collaboration with the Ludwig van Beethoven Association), and Voivode in Statkowski\u2019s Maria conducted by \u0141ukasz Borowicz.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Wojtek Gierlach is represented by the Ludwig van Beethoven Association<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bass Wojtek Gierlach has appeared in many leading operatic roles and his records have been acclaimed by music lovers all over the world.
