Marlis Petersen\u2019s repertoire includes classical coloratura as well as contemporary music. She studied at the Conservatory in Stuttgart, training in the specialised areas of opera, new music and dance. Her debut at the Vienna State Opera was as Lulu, a role which she also sang in the famous Konwitschny staging in Hamburg, in Munich and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she gave her very successful farewell to the role. She has made acclaimed performances in opera houses in London, Geneva, Paris, New York Met and Chicago, as well as the Festival of Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence. She performed in the world premieres of Henze\u2019s <em>Phaedra<\/em>, Manfred Trojahn\u2019s <em>La Grande Magia<\/em> and in the title role of Aribert Reimann\u2019s <em>Medea<\/em> at Vienna State Opera. Other highlights include her first <em>La traviata<\/em> in Graz, Marguerite in Meyerbeer\u2019s <em>Huguenots<\/em> in Brussels, and Olympia\/Antonia\/Giulietta in <em>Les Contes d\u2019Hoffmann<\/em> at Theater an der Wien.<\/p>\n<p>In concert, she has worked closely with Helmuth Rilling and the International Bach Academy Stuttgart, as well as with Ren\u00e9 Jacobs. Recent successes were the leading role in the world premiere of Schreier\u2019s <em>Hamlet<\/em> at Theater an der Wien and her debut as <em>Manon<\/em> at the Vienna State Opera.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marlis Petersen, soprano.
