Hailed by the <em>Boston Globe<\/em> for his \u201cvelvety-smooth, dark-hued, stylish\u201d voice, bass-baritone Eric Downs is garnering great acclaim on both the opera and concert stage. He began last season singing Leporello in a critically acclaimed production of <em>Don Giovanni <\/em>with NYC\u2019s Venture Opera. Later in the season he appeared again with Venture as Zuniga\/<em>Carmen. <\/em>During the 2014-15 season he made his concert debut with Greensboro Symphony in a broadcast performance of Haydn\u2019s <em>The Creation. <\/em>He then made two return appearances, first with Townsend Opera singing Angelotti\/<em>Tosca <\/em>and then Jigger Craigin\/<em>Carousel <\/em>with Opera on the Avalon. This season he returns to Townsend Opera to sing Doc Gibbs in Ned Rorem\u2019s <em>Our Town. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Other recent season highlights include the role of Kru\u0161ina\/<em>The Bartered Bride <\/em>with Boston Midsummer Opera, Bottom\/<em>A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream <\/em>with Opera on the Avalon, a guest appearance as Javert\/<em>Les Mis\u00e9rables <\/em>with Pepperdine University, where he was Artist in Residence, Basilio\/<em>Il barbiere di Siviglia <\/em>and Mustaf\u00e0\/<em>L\u2019italiana in Algeri <\/em>with Boston Midsummer Opera.<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, Downs has appeared at the Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw, Poland in Donizetti\u2019s <em>Maria Padilla <\/em>and with the Orchestra Verdi in Milan singing featured roles in such works as <em>Gianni Schicchi, Kiss Me Kate, Trouble in Tahiti<\/em>, and<em> A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream <\/em>among others.<\/p>\n<p>He is also an active soloist with recent concert appearances in Haydn\u2019s <em>Paukenmesse <\/em>at Carnegie Hall, Handel\u2019s <em>Messiah <\/em>at the Washington National Cathedral, and a Victor Herbert Gala with the Little Orchestra Society of New York at Lincoln Center.<\/p>\n<p>Currently residing in New York City, Eric Downs received his Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eric Downs.
