The incredible charm andmasterful playing of saxophonist Virgo Veldimakes him one of Estonia’s most well knownand sought after artists. He obtained his BA andMA degree cum laude from the Estonian Academyof Music and Theatre and complemented hisstudies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland.As a young musician he won many of the mainprizes at Estonia’s most important competitions.Virgo is an active freelance artist playingnumerous chamber music concerts and recitalseach year as well as solo performances withorchestras in Estonia and abroad, in collaborationwith such renowned conductors as Risto Joost,Lauri Sirp, Mikk Murdvee, Olari Elts, Vello Pähn,Jüri Alperten and Nikolai Alexeev.Virgo Veldi has worked as a saxophone teacherat the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and theSibelius High School in Helsinki. Since 2001 hehas taught at the Estonian Academy of Musicand Theatre, from 2012 as Associate Professor,having given numerous master classes in differentcountries in Europe. From 1999 to 2004 he wasa member and artistic director of the saxophonequartet SaxEst.Recent seasons have taken him on tour in Estonia,Italy, the UK and Sweden with the renownedSwedish based international string orchestraCamerata Nordica, playing a new commission byDaniela Terranova and a piece Prayer written forhim by the Estonian composer Galina Grigorjeva.
