Born in Tarnobrzeg in Poland,Maciej Tworek studied the piano under ProfessorJan Hoffman, choral studies at the Musical EducationFaculty, and conducting under Professor Józef Radwanat the Faculty of Composition, Conducting and MusicTheory of the Academy of Music in Kraków.He attended master classes by conductors such asHelmuth Rilling, Roger Norrington, and Kurt Masur.He was assistant conductor to Valery Gergievand Lorin Maazel.In 1998, he was awarded an honourable mentionat the 2nd Witold Lutosławski National Competitionfor Young Conductors in Białystok and in 2002he reached the semi-finals at The Maazel/VilarConductors’ Competition. In 2003, he made anappearanceat the Festival junger Künstler in Bayreuth performingwith the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy ofMusic in Kraków. From 2005 to 2012, Maciej Tworekconducted the Capella Cracoviensis and was appointedits deputy director. Currently, he is a lecturer at theAcademy of Music in Kraków.Maciej Tworek has worked with numerous ensemblesincluding the Hilliard Ensemble, the Polish RadioSymphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, New RussiaState Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica SimónBolívar de Venezuela, Coro Nacional Juvenil deVenezuela, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra Chorusin South Korea, the NDR Chor, NDR Radiofilharmonie,MDR Rundfunk Chor, MDR Sinfonie Orchester,Camerata Janáček, the Brno Philharmonic, BeethovenAcademy Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus, the PolishRadio Choir, the Pro Arte Chamber Choir, and thephilharmonic orchestras of Kraków, Rzeszów, Łódź,Wrocław and Białystok.Since 2002 he has worked regularly as conductorwith Krzysztof Penderecki.
