Tonight at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, we mark the closing of the 29th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival.
The final concert will feature Kadysz by Krzysztof Penderecki and Kaddish by Leonard Bernstein. These profound works, both based on the traditional Jewish prayer for the dead, will be performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the National Philharmonic, the Alla Polacca Children’s and Youth Choir, Natalia Rubiś (soprano), Gerard Edery (cantor), and narrators Sławomira Łozińska and Sławomir Holland. The concert will be conducted by Christoph König, Principal Guest Conductor of the National Philharmonic.
During this year’s edition of the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, audiences experienced seven symphonic concerts, four vocal recitals, two piano recitals, and two chamber concerts over the span of twelve days.
Festival General Director Elżbieta Penderecka invited outstanding soloists, conductors, and some of the finest national and international symphony orchestras to participate in this edition.
The festival’s guiding theme – “Beethoven and Great Poetry” – shaped the programme, which was rich in vocal-instrumental works and compositions inspired by literature. The repertoire ranged from Beethoven, through Franz Liszt, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Frédéric Chopin, and Maurice Ravel, to Krzysztof Penderecki.
