Kirył Keduk, a pianist of Polish descent born in Grodno, received his education under the guidance of renowned pedagogues: Boris Petrushansky at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica Internazionale in Imola, Piotr Paleczny at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and Graham Scott at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. His interpretations of works by Polish composers earned him the Third Prize at the International Competition of Polish Music in Rzeszów in 2023.
The recital of this talented pianist will feature piano miniatures by Polish composers, spanning from Maria Szymanowska, who composed in the early decades of the 19th century, through the prematurely deceased and highly gifted Antoni Stolpe and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, to the 20th-century neoclassicist Aleksander Tansman.
The central focus of the evening will be works by Chopin (Scherzo in B minor, Op. 31) and five improvisations, Op. 13, by Juliusz Zarębski, titled Les Roses et les Épines (Roses and Thorns). This innovative cycle, published in 1883 in Mainz, holds a unique place in the piano literature, not only in Poland. Its sonic sensuality and range of moods transcend its time of creation, foreshadowing the impressionistic color of music. Zarębski was considered one of the most talented students of Franz Liszt. He dedicated his Piano Quintet in G minor—the most famous work from his limited compositional output—to his teacher. Unfortunately, his promising career as a virtuoso pianist and composer was cut short by his death at the age of just 31.
