Szymanowski Quartet

The Szymanowski Quartet has performed concertson international stages for nearly 20 years, beinga regular guest on all the continents. Opening itsdynamic career in 1996, the ensemble immediatelymoved up to the exclusive bevy of the world’smost popular string quartets, standing out withthe character of its sound, and their expressivenessand care for the variety of style.As the name of its patron, Karol Szymanowski,suggested, the quartet became an ambassadorof his, and consequently of Polish music in theworld and it has performed works of Szymanowskiand other Polish composers in nearly everyconcert. In the early history of the quartet, the firstrewards came with prizes at international musiccompetitions in Florence, Melbourne, Osaka,Munich, Weimar and Hanover, and meetingswith such great personalities as Hatto Beyerle,Alfred Brendel, Isaak Stern, Walter Levin, andmembers of the legendary quartets – Amadeus,Guarneri, Juilliard, and Emerson.From its earliest days, the quartet has regularlyperformed in the most important concert halls,including the Carnegie Hall in New York, WigmoreHall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam,Musikverein in Vienna, and the Konzerthausesin Vienna and Berlin. The ensemble is also hostedat such festivals of great renown as the BBC Proms,Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Schwetzingen,Schubertiade, and Lockenhaus. Every year,the musicians tour the US, Canada, and Asia,and perform in South America and Australia.The quartet regularly works with eminentcomposers, notably Krzysztof Penderecki, SofiaGubaidulina, and Magnus Lindberg, at the sametime making sure they perform works by thecomposers of the younger generation.Recordings by the Szymanowski Quartetcan be heard on a range of labels including Avi,Cavi-Music, Hyperion, Haenssler Classic, DECCA,SWR, BBC.
