Savva Khastaev

Born in Ulan-Ude. Trainedas a choral conductor at the Tchaikovsky Schoolof Music in Ulan-Ude and at the Moscow StateConservatory, where he obtained his diplomafrom the vocal faculty.In 2014 he won 2nd Prize at the “Opera WithoutBorders” Competition for Young Opera Singers(Krasnodar) and 1st Prize at the Maxim MikhailovCompetition for Young Opera Singers (Kaluga).Khastaev has worked at the Sats Children’s MusicTheatre and the Buryat State Opera and BalletTheatre (Ulan-Ude). He has performed the roles ofRadames/Aida, Erik/Der Fliegende Holländer, andthe Young Gypsy in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko. In 2013he made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre asCassio in Vasily Barkhatov’s production of Othello,while a year earlier he became a member of theMariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers.Together with soloists of the Academy he appearedin first performances of Leonid Klinichev’s operasBela (2014) and The Cossacks (2016), and ina series of concert performances of Soviet operasincluding Quiet Flows the Don by Ivan Dzerzhinsky,Colas Breugnon by Dmitry Kabalevsky, and in NotLove Alone by Rodion Shchedrin. Khastaev appearsin subscription series concert programmes of theAcademy.
