Santander Orchestra

Since 2015 the Bank Zachodni WBK, MyWayFoundation, and the Krzysztof PendereckiEuropean Centre for Music have run the SantanderOrchestra project to help students and graduatesof Polish music universities in their professionaldevelopment. Talented musicians from all overthe country have an opportunity to hone their skillsunder the supervision of excellent conductorsand soloists, as well as tutors from leadingEuropean orchestras and institutions of highereducation. Additionally, they participate in seriesof lectures in communication, copyrightand related rights, personal finance management,and individual development.The orchestra have performed under KrzysztofPaderewski, John Axelrod, Jerzy Maksymiuk,and José Maria Florêncio, playing in the mostprestigious and modern concert halls of Poland,including the Mieczysław Karłowicz PhilharmonicHall in Szczecin and the NOSPR Concert Hall inKatowice. At a special invitation from ElżbietaPenderecka, the orchestra performed at the20th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival at theWarsaw Philharmonic Hall. In the autumn of 2016,they released their first CD with pianist KrzysztofKsiążek. The album, featuring music by Chopinand Dvořák, is available both on the traditional CDand through popular digital music platforms,e.g. Spotify.In 2017 the Santander Orchestra Academyaccepted 125 musicians from among the 300who applied. The key element of the Academy isprovided by masterclasses complemented witha series of lectures contributing to the futureprofessional development of the musicians.
