Swedish tenor Michael Weinius, born in Stockholm, has rapidly established himself as one of Europe’s most sought after and praised tenors.

After making his transition from baritone to tenor in 2004 Michael Weinius immediately had tremendous success as Laça in Jenufa at the NorrlandsOperan in Sweden, Don José in Carmen in concert with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Marc Soustrot, Loge in Das Rheingold with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under Kent Nagano and Sergej in Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk at the Wermland Opera in Karlstad.

Among further engagements to be mentioned are Riccardo in Un ballo in Maschera at Malmö Opera, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana at The Royal Swedish Opera, the title role in Parsifal both in Mannheim and at Wermland Opera, Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West and Herodes in Salome at the Malmö Opera, Siegmund in Die Walküre at The Royal Swedish Opera and Don José in Carmen at Teater Hedeland in Denmark.

Further recent and future engagements include Parsifal for Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Finnish National Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and The Royal Swedish Opera, Siegmund for De Nationale Reisoper, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Opera North, Hans Schwalb in Mathis der Maler conducted by Christoph Eschenbach at Opera de Bastille in Paris, Don José in Stockholm, Lohengrin both in Stockholm and at Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as highlights from Lohengrin in Baden-Baden with Christian Thielemann, Tristan and Herodes at the Royal opera in Stockholm, Mao in Nixon in China at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and in 2017 his first Siegfried at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf.

Michael Weinius has been a recipient of many awards and prizes. In 2004 he was the winner of the prestigious Gösta Winbergh Award, in 2006 he received the Birgit Nilsson Prize for singers and in August 2008 he was the winner of Seattle Opera’s International Wagner Competition.

In 2013 Michael Weinius received from H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf the honorable title of Court Singer.
