Baritone
Krzysztof Szumanski is a former member of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at The Royal Opera House. He studied at The National Opera Studio in London and the Frédéric Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He attended master classes with among others Ileana Cotrubas, Catherine Malfitano, Alison Pearce, Bernd Weikl.
As Young Artist he appeared at The Royal Opera House covering the roles of Nick Shadow in Rake’s Progress, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore and Ferrando in Il trovatore. During this time he worked with such conductors as Antonio Pappano, Semyon Bychkov, Ivor Bolton, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Bernard Haitink and Mikko Franck.
Between 2008 and 2013, Krzysztof Szumanski was a member of Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble where he appeared as: Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Alidoro in La Cenerentola and Paolo Orsini in Rienzi. Additionally, he sung Angelotti in Tosca, Masetto in the production of Roland Schwab’s Don Giovanni and also as Panthee in Les Troyens and as Zuniga in Carmen.
After joining the Deutsche Oper Berlin Ensemble, Szumanski made his debut at the Wexford Festival in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden conducted by Dimitri Jurowski. He was invited back in 2011 to perform the role of Count Palatine in R. Statkowski’s opera Maria.
In season 2010/11, Krzysztof Szumanski performed a baritone version of Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite at the Berlin Philharmonie and in March 2012 he sang at the Berlin Philharmonie Opera Gala. In the same season Krzysztof made his debut at Warsaw National Opera as Leporello in Don Giovanni and as Figaro and Leporello at Krakow Opera House.
Next season’s plans include debuts in several roles as: Don Giovanni and Figaro (New Belgrade Opera), Scarpia and Yago (National Theatre, Belgrade) and, Berliner Philharmonie (Opera Gala and Beethoven’s IX Symphony).
