Genia Kühmeier

Genia Kühmeier initially studied musicand vocal pedagogy at the Mozarteum in Salzburgand later became a member of the Vienna StateOpera, where she made her tremendouslysuccessful debut as Pamina. The soprano singerstarted her international career in 2002 at La Scalain Milan as Diane/Iphigénie en Aulide. In 2004Riccardo Muti invited her for Salieri’s L’Europariconosciuta. At the Salzburg Festival in 2005 and2006 she sang Pamina/Die Zauberflöte, again underthe baton of Riccardo Muti, in 2010 she appearedin Gluck’s Orfeo and in 2011 she gave her debutas Contessa/Le Nozze di Figaro. Further successesare Sophie/Der Rosenkavalier, conducted byChristian Thielemann, Ilia/Idomeneo at the Theateran der Wien, La Finta Giardiniera at the Royal OperaHouse in London, Pamina/Die Zauberflöte at theMetropolitan Opera in New York and at La Scala.In January 2012 she made her debut as Antonia/Les Contes d’Hoffmann at La Scala, a role whichshe reprised later at the Bastille in Paris.Recent highlights include Micaëla/Carmen at theEaster and Summer Festivals in Salzburg, Zdenka/Arabella and Micaëla/Carmen at the Bastille in Paris,Die Zauberflöte in Munich and Vienna, Le Nozzedi Figaro in Munich, Vienna and Berlin, Arabellain Vienna and Dresden and Micaëla also in Dresden,where she will reprise these roles in the nextfew seasons.With her vast repertoire Genia Kühmeier has shiftedthe main focus of her artistic endeavours to theconcert stage. She is one of the most sought afterconcert singers of our time and a frequent guestat renowned concert halls. Recently she could beheard with Mozart’s Requiem in Milan (La Scala),Salzburg (Mozarteum) and Munich (BayerischerRundfunk), Bach’s St. John Passion in Vienna(Konzerthaus) and Schubert’s Mass in A flatin Berlin (DSO). Future projects include numerousconcerts in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, New York,and Paris.
